Workshop U-Map

Technical Workshop U-Map

7 April, Lisbon, Portugal

U-Map

The mapping of higher education institutions in Portugal according to the U-Map model has started. U-Map (see http://www.u-map.eu ) is an ongoing project, initiated on the basis of a grant from the European Commission through its Lifelong Learning Program. The project aims to arrive at a classification of European higher education institutions, thus enhancing the transparency of the European higher education area (EHEA). U-Map institutions to express both what they do (showing their profile) and how that profile compares to similar institutions. The U-Map profile of an institution shows at-a-glance its main activities. It is based on empirical data for 25 key indicators, grouped into six dimensions. The variety of each institution’s activity is pictured in its ‘sunburst’ chart, with six colours representing the six dimensions of U-Map. U-Map thus maps the institutional diversity in the Portuguese higher education system.

Workshop

An important pre-condition for a reliable data collection and a proper construction of activity profiles is to have respondents from higher education institutions that are aware of the definitions of the various data elements and how to submit their institution’s data using the on-line questionnaire. For this, the U-Map project will organize a national workshop in Portugal where the U-Map team explains to representatives from the participating institutions what data are to be submitted and how this is fed into the U-Map database.

A workshop for you to..

·

learn about the U-Map project in general

·

learn about the ins and outs of the online U-Map questionnaire, the indicators and the different data elements

·

exchange information and ask questions about the questionnaire with the U-Map team and with your colleagues from other higher education institutions in Portugal

In the workshop, the U-Map team will guide you through the U-Map questionnaire and explain what definitions are used, how to deal with the ‘pre-filled’ part of the questionnaire and what data sources are used for this.

In the week leading up to the workshop you will receive the access codes for your institution’s unique and partly pre-filled institutional questionnaire and a protocol in which the procedures are explained. In addition, you will receive a Glossary, describing the definitions for the U-Map data elements and indicators. This allows you to prepare for the workshop optimally. If you have any questions before the workshop, please contact us so we can properly address your question either before or during the workshop.
